Trex Decking Problems – Early Generation Trex Composite
Trex’s early generation composite deck boards such as Trex Accent, Trex Profiles, Trex Brasilia & Trex Contours definitely had some major flaws. The early generation of Trex composite was very susceptible to mold, stains, didn’t really have a nice natural wood look and wasn’t a great composite product during its lifespan.

Fortunately the new generation of high performance Trex Composite solved the issues related to the early generation Trex decking. Trex Transcend, Trex Enhance & Trex Select are all manufactured with a high performance shell that wraps around the composite board to protect it from the elements, providing resistance to fading, staining, scratching, mold build up and is backed by a 25 year manufacturers warranty.

In our opinion it looks fantastic, is very difficult to scratch, easy to clean and is actually very reasonably priced when compared to some of the other high end composites on the market. About 80% of our new decks and deck resurfacing projects use Trex Transcend with spiced rum being the most popular colour option with Ottawa residents. We also use Trex Enhance decking. The main difference between these two lines is that you are limited to 3 colour choices with Trex enhance but you save about 15-20 percent on the decking costs.
